Using The Google Toolbar
Using the Blogger Right Click
Script
Using the Blogger Web
Interface
USING
THE BLOGGER TOOLBAR
The Google Toolbar (Ver
2.0 and above) integrates the Blogger button on the
Google Toolbar which allows anyone to post content
instantly as one comes across them. The Toolbar can be
downloaded for free at www.toolbar.google.com
.
For example see image on
right. This article [from Health and Informatics
Review Online] was browsed using Internet
Explorer. If the editor feels the link should be share
with others through the Virtual Journal of International
health, he just need to click on the Blogger Button on
the Toolbar.
Now the blogger script is
activated and a pop up window comes up with options to
login (if you still have not) and post the content.[See
Figure ]. You must have noticed that the window is
something like a form with spaces to fill in [Blogger
automatically fills in the Title and URL when the script
is activated from a specific page.]
[Please note that the same
window can be triggered by right clicking and using the
Blog option described below]
Now here, make
sure the title corresponds to the title of the
manuscript [By default, the script auto fills
this space with the title of the page, which may not
correspond to the title of the manuscript. In the figure
below, you must have noticed that the title added by
default is the title of the website and not the
manuscript. Please make sure you edit this.
The next field is
obviously the URL field. By default, this is auto filled
by the URL from which the Blogger script was activated.
Now it is probably time to
edit the body of the post. The
first line of the body should be the citation
information of the manuscript.(You should delete
the text added to this field by default). If the content
is copyrighted(means the
content is only free to access and cannot be reproduced
freely), please make sure you leave
the field blank. If the content is available
under an Open Access
License (means you are free to reproduce the content
without any restrictions), you may post
the abstract and not the full text of the paper.
Please feel free to go
through the already uploaded posts at www.virtualmedonline.com/vj/blogger.html
So now your editing is
almost over. You may go through the text and look
through once again to see everything is right and there
are no obvious spelling mistakes. Now it is probably time
to post it to the website. To do it simply click on the POST
and PUBLISH button. The content is
automatically uploaded and you will receive a thank you
page with options to edit the post or quit.
USING
THE BLOGGER TRIGGER SCRIPT
The Blogger trigger script
is a tiny script which can be downloaded and gets
attached to your menu on clicking the right mouse
button. [See fig]. Now clicking on the 'Blog
This' Option on the page you want to post,
the pop up window is automatically triggered as above.
Editing rules apply as above.
USING
THE WEB-BASED INTERFACE
The Web-Based interface is
for those who are on the move or are not very
comfortable with the Google Toolbar [This may be also
because there is no Google toolbar for Netscape
Navigator and other browsers] or the Trigger script. But
the web based interface is perhaps the best you can
afford to have- given its functionality and ease of use.
The Blogger
Web based interface can be accessed at www.blogger.com
. The homepage contains fields to login using your
unique username and password.[See Fig].
After Successfully logging
in, you will be presented with a posting cum editing
interface/control panel. The editing interface [the one
above] looks similar to the interface on the editing
window elaborated above and editing rules apply
universally.
The lower pane also
contains recent posts, with an EDIT
link alongside each post. If you feel some significant
error has creeped into one of your earlier posts, you
are free to edit it. You may also edit others' posts,
but this is strongly discouraged unless there is some
significant error. You may alternately point out the
error to the Admin Editor -Dr.Vinod Scaria at vinodscaria@yahoo.co.in
.
